School exclusions: Considering reinstatement of an excluded pupil

Who is this training for?

School governors/academy trustees who have a pending duty to consider reinstatement of a pupil if they are suspended or permanently excluded.

This session has been designed for governors with little or no knowledge of statutory exclusions guidance, and particularly for those who have never been required to consider a decision by the Headteacher to permanently exclude a pupil.

This session is set up for a board or trustees from a single school or Trust.

What will we cover in this session?

What is helpful to know?

This session is open to schools and academies, and can only be booked by a group of governors or trustees from the same school/Trust at a time.

  • This session will be facilitated by Lee Kennedy.

  • This session does not go in to detail about independent review panels and the reconsideration of a governing board decision.

  • A Microsoft Teams link for the session will be shared with participants via email once a booking has been made.

  • In order to comply with GDPR regulations, it will not be possible to discuss specific cases which might reveal the identity of an excluded pupil.

  • This training links to the statutory exclusions guidance published by the Department for Education, therefore will be for schools in England only.

  • It is advisable to join via the Teams link a few minutes before the session starts to ensure you have connected successfully.

  • Due to my professional role within Kent, training is only available for schools and academies outside Kent.
