Who is this training for?

School governors who have opted to be part of a panel to consider reinstatement of an excluded pupil should the scenario arise.

This session has been designed for governors with little or no knowledge of statutory exclusions guidance and will aim to give them the knowledge and confidence to make a robust decision in accordance with the guidance.

This session is exclusively for governors within the same school, trust or multi-academy trust.

The content in this session is the same as the intensive session available to book on this website.

  • An introduction to statutory guidance: Suspension and permanent exclusion from maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units in England, including pupil movement published by the Department for Education in August 2024.

  • Arranging education for pupils suspended for more than 5 days.

  • Preventative measures to exclusion - off site direction.

  • When do governors have a duty to consider reinstatement of an excluded pupil?

  • Preparing for the consideration of reinstatement of an excluded pupil.

What is helpful to know?

This session is exclusively for reservation by governors or trustees based within the same school, trust or multi-academy trust only.

  • This session will be facilitated by Lee Kennedy.

  • A Microsoft Teams link for the session will be shared with participants via email once the booking has been made.

  • It is advisable to join via the Teams link a few minutes before the session starts to ensure you have connected successfully.

  • This training links to the statutory exclusions guidance published by the Department for Education in August 2024, therefore will be for schools and academies in England only.

  • There is no limit to how many governors may join this session but must be from the same school or trust. If a member of the governing board, such as the clerk, books the session on behalf of the board, names of all governors must be provided.

  • PLEASE NOTE. This session is not available for governors of schools based in Kent.
