Exclusions training for school governors..

Session name: Responsive

Session code: SG03

School exclusion training: School governors

Who is this training for?

School governors/trustees with a duty to consider reinstatement of a pupil who has been suspended or permanently excluded in their school/trust, and must meet to do this within the next 15 school days (in the case of a permanent exclusion).

This session has been designed for governors with little or no knowledge of statutory exclusions guidance, and particularly for those who have never been required to consider a decision by the Headteacher to permanently exclude a pupil.

This session is exclusively for booking by at least three governors from the same school or trust who will be meeting to consider the pending suspension or exclusion.

This training is same content as the intensive session for governing boards available on this website.

What is helpful to know?

This session is exclusively for reserving by governors or trustees based within the same school, trust or multi-academy trust only who are required to consider reinstatement of a pupil within the next 15 school days.

  • This session will be facilitated by Lee Kennedy.

  • Please make a booking enquiry as soon as possible after the governing board is notified of the exclusion. Every effort will be made to arrange a session prior to the exclusion meeting but will be dependent on the timing of the request and availability of both the presenter and the board members.

  • A Microsoft Teams link for the session will be shared with participants via email once a booking has been made.

  • In order to comply with GDPR regulations, it will not be possible to discuss specific cases which might reveal the identity of an excluded pupil.

  • This training links to the statutory exclusions guidance published by the Department for Education in August 2024, therefore will be for schools and academies in England only.

  • It is advisable to join via the Teams link a few minutes before the session starts to ensure you have connected successfully.

  • PLEASE NOTE: This session is not available to governors of schools located in Kent.
