Who is this training for?
School Leaders who have day to day decision making responsibility in their school around suspensions and permanent exclusions of their pupils.
This session has been designed for a Headteacher:
With no, or very limited knowledge of statutory exclusions guidance;
Never permanently excluded a pupil before;
Never attended a meeting where their school's governors have had a duty to consider their decision to suspend or permanently exclude a pupil.
This session may also be useful for new Headteachers, and other members of the Senior Leadership Team who may be given delegated responsibility for exclusion decisions in the absence of the Headteacher.

This session can be run at short notice, on other days, and on a one to one basis should a Headteacher make a decision to permanently exclude a pupil for the first time and have a governor meeting pending. Please click the button below for more information.

What will we cover in this session?

What is helpful to know?
This session will be facilitated by Lee Kennedy.
The session is designed for Headteachers with no or very little knowledge of the exclusion process and statutory guidance.
A Microsoft Teams link for the session will be shared with participants by email once the booking has been made.
It is advisable to join via the Teams link a few minutes before the session starts to ensure you have connected successfully.
This training links to the statutory exclusions guidance published by the Department for Education in August 2024, therefore will be for schools in England only.
The session may be rescheduled if there are less than five participants due to join. 48 hours notice will be provided.
This session is not available for booking by Headteachers of Kent schools due to the facilitator’s day to day role as an LA representative in Kent.
